My spouse is a bird lover so this was a must-see place for her during our recent trip to New Delhi after we spotted it in the LP. The description made it sound very interesting so we were a bit surprised that it was so underwhelming. It was a little difficult to find (we had to wander around in the...More

Kind of an unusual place but fits in with the Jain philosophy of not harming living souls. The vet was tending to some birds which had just been brought in when I was there. He was setting a broken wing on a pigeon. The hospital is very clean and the birds and a couple of other little creatures were being...More

The Bird Hospital is run in conjunction with the Jain Shri Digambar temple, located across the street from the Red Fort in Old Delhi. It seems the Bird Hospital has been in operation and funded by private donations since 1956, having nursed and cared for hundreds of thousands of birds in its time. Apparently, over 50 birds a day are...More

Maybe I'm wrong but it looked more like a pigeons breeding place than a hospital for birds. I saw only few sick birds there. I had to walk barefoot on a wet and cold marble floor that was a very unpleasant experience. This institution can be a simple (and typical) Indian trap for naive tourists. So better think twice before...More

Do not get me wrong, this is a noble charity but if you go be prepared to be in very close proximity to many sick birds, walking barefoot on wet floors and asked for a donation

We visited this place after recommendation from the lonely planet. You'll see all the injured birds receiving medical care and as you carry on to the roof you see the birds that have been released after making a full recovery. Its wonderful to see the dedication shown here to all injured birds. Donations are appreciated!
