From Doctors Desk:
It is once again my proud privilege in the eleventh year of my service in this hospital & I got a chance to apprise you of the working of the world famous hospital.
The doctrine of AHIMSA is common to all Indian religions and has always a great influence in molding Indian Characters. With Jain particularly, the doctrine of ahimsa has gone so much further than just being brother – hold of man. In fact, it has found its consummation in the kindship of all sentient, life-man, animal, birds etc.
Obviously it had to be a Jain Institution to practice ahimsa in both the aspects, not only in abstaining from killing life and in whatever form it is, but also in saving such as can be saved around us. We are concerned about animals health as such are an economic proposition for us, but who cares for the Birds, who most of them are not related with our interest in any way. In line with this ancient Institution of asylums for animals is this Birds Hospital of Delhi “ CHARITY BIRDS HOSPITAL”.
This hospital has been doing a commendable service to the feathered community even since its inception with vigour & dedication. Presently this hospital is being managed by “Prachin Shree Aggarwal Digamber Jain Panchayat” under the able steward-ship of Sh. Ramesh Chand Jain (Gotewale). He is not only a managing figure but he knows the profession very well and take keen interest in the hospital activities. His approach towards the hospital is scientific. He gave us suggestion and guidance from time to time for betterment of the hospital. He is very kind hearted man. Though he is not physically well then also he is taking his own interest. He left no stone unturned for the betterment and providing facilities towards birds.
In this Charity Birds Hospital we treat each and every type of birds like Pigeon, Parrot, Poultry Bird, Peacock, Sparrow, Dove, Mynah, Kite, Eagle, Owl, Patridge, Koyal, Bajri, Finch, Crow, Duck, Crain, Swan and Migratory birds etc.
There are different kinds of diseases that we are encountered in the hospital:-
i) Viral: (a) Ranikhet (b) Fowl Pox (c) Marek’s Disease (d) Infectious Bronchitis.
ii) Bacterial: (a) Pullorum (b) CRD (c) Intectious Coryza.
iii) Fungal: (a) Aspergillosis (Brooder Pnumonia) (b) Aflatoxicosis
iv) Parasitic: (a) Ecto-parasites ( lice, mites, flec etc.) (b) Endo-parasites (Nematodes & Spiro-Chectosis)
v) Nutritional: (a) Vitaminosis A or Nutritional croup (b) Polyneuritis (c) Curled-Toe Paralysis (d) Dermatitis (e) Encephalomalocia (f) Rickets etc.
vi) Miscelleneous: like Bumble foot, Cannibalism, Crop impaction, Poisoning etc.
When the patient(bird) came first, then we diagnosed the disease depending upon history and symptoms give the medicine accordingly. We then put them in single ICU cages according to the diseases so that the infection can not spread from bird to other. After one week or so, when the infection is checked we put the birds in medium size cages where they take the feed itself and the medicines are given in drinking water. Once the health is in recovery stage then we transferred these birds to upstairs in General Ward. This ward is for keeping recouperating birds who need time to pick-up strength to fly away. There are Isolation ward like Pox Ward, Coryza ward. There is one laboratory, operations theator, OPD and Indoor section (having different type of words and cages according to the type of birds and disease). Most “ Fly-away” birds keep coming back in the evening for feed and rest for the night which only speakes of comfort and love they get from the “home” which was meant to offer a short stay only.
The hospital has all that takes to make it’s a hospital in modern sense where one expects comforts, care and treatment.
In the end I would like to thanks to the management for their support given to me and the co-operation extended to me by colleagues and co-workers of this hospital in running the hospital so creditable.
