A paradise on earth called Kashmir…
“Agar firdous baroye zameen ast, hami asto, hami asto hami ast” – Amir-e-Khusru Dehluvi
(If there is paradise on earth, It is here, it is here, it is here)
It’s true – Kashmir is really beautiful. A long flight via Delhi but when we were landing in Srinagar I saw the excitement on Sanjeeda’s face. She was looking through the window and was asking me to stop playing with my iPad and instead admire the beauty outside. I just had to look out once and once I did, I kept looking outside.
It was the sheer excitement of landing in Kashmir – a place where I always wanted to go. A place whose beauty we always keep talking bout, a place which has been in the news for all the reasons, a place where most of the Shammi Kapoor movies have been shot!
On the way to my hotel I kept looking for snow but it was summer and warm and we reached my hotel without seeing anything. I realised there is something special in the soil and weather or else how can the flowers be so colourful and beautiful? Flowers all over and looked lovely. I just slept through the day and had a show in the evening. Besides this, the best thing I had done was fix my travel plan for the next day.
At 9.30 in the morning I started my day and my friend there made sure we enjoyed every minute in and around Srinagar. I can’t to you explain you guys what I felt when we started driving to Pehelgaam. It was one of the most exciting drives I have had. I saw saffron farms and bought saffron… We visited a cricket bat factory and then reached Pehelgaam.
We started clicking pictures and then realised – God we are in Kashmir. I stepped into a little stream and washed my face for an hour with the water, was in the garden with flowers, ate the best mutton possible and met some amazing people. The people over there are so warm. One thing about them I love the most is their love for Kashmir. They are proud to be Kashmiri and can never get over the beauty of Kashmir.
The next day, which was our last day, we managed to go to a beautiful golf course, which had mountains around it. After a ride in the buggie in the golf course, we sat in the car to head to the airport. Both me and Sanjee were sad as one and half days was not enough but we promised ourselves that we will be back. There is no tension in the valley now and I hope it stays the same. I’m glad I went there and would suggest to everyone to go there once in their life to feel the experience called – KASHMIR!
